Have you ever thought about the planets and the solar system in relation to the Bible?
Job 26:7
“He stretches out the north over empty space
And hangs the earth on nothing.
Many other cultures thought that the earth was supported by different animals, but way back in the time of Job we are told it is hung on nothing. A very good description of space.
How long was it before scientists figured out that the universe was actually expanding? But here it is, right in Isaiah:
Isaiah 40:21,22
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
Has it not been declared to you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
The answer was 1929; that was when Hubble published a paper that would let people realize that the universe was expanding.
Another good verse is:
Psalm 19:1
The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Balancing a solar system to last is not trivial. Think about how stable our own solar system is, while you try to play the following game. If you use the larger planets how stable is a solar system that you try to create?
Not so easy is it? Let's give thanks to God for all the details large and small he put together for us.
Psalm 8:1-4
O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
