Shining our Light

Today a Compact Florescent bulb is rated at 6,000 hours.... if you use it as per their guidelines.  LED lights are said to last up to 50,000 hours.

Before 1924 an incandescent light bulb would last 1,500 to 2,000 hours.  However in 1924 the Phoebus cartel decided that it would be better to shorten that lifespan to 1,000 hours.  The light bulb companies would send in samples to a laboratory in Switzerland for verification.  If they lasted too long or too short they would pay a fine.

The  Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department has a light bulb from 1900, BEFORE the Phoebus cartel.  It has been working all of that time and still shines today.  In fact you can see a web camera of it.

Mark 4:21 and 22 (NAS) tells us:

He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed?

Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.

While it is rare to live 115 years, we want to make the most of our life and like the Livermore-Pleaanton Fire department bulb, to keep on shining for Christ.

The Phoebus cartel, on the other hand wanted to limit the ability of lights to shine.  In our own lives we we have many distractions for our time, but we need to make sure that whatever we are doing, that we ARE shining for Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV) says:

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
