So a long time ago, Eric from the Hutchinson church told me about this old British Science Fiction show called Doctor Who.
I managed to find a few reruns on PBC and enjoyed them after church back when I lived in Hector...
It ran from 1963 until 1989. The main character traveled in what looked like an old British Police/phone box through space and time. It was bigger on the inside. Every number of years the doctor’s body would be killed, at which time he would regenerate into someone else, new personality and actor, but all the original memories.
In 2005 it was brought back, and later made it to the US SCI FI channel where my late wife and I enjoyed it, until it was pulled from SCI FI.
When my son got older I started buying the DVDs to run through all the Dr. Who I had missed with new wife and him. It is still on the air today, but they don’t make a new season every single year.
In January Philip was showing some of his favorite episodes to his Grandparents from Michigan. The plot was that the whole universe was in peril, but he could save it. The catch was he would be caught on the wrong side of a crack and would be outside of the universe and unable to come back, wiped from existence, no one would even remember him….
He then says this to comfort his traveling companions from Earth: Amy & Rory:
"If something can be remembered, it can come back"
So he goes and saves the Universe, and we flip back to Rory & Amy getting married, and not remembering him, but then it gets fun, check out the video:
So she remembered him and he was brought back into our universe…. This got me thinking though. We know that the righteous are all remembered by God and added to his Book of Life.
Revelation 21:2, 27
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
I found this also in scripture:
Isaiah 49:15
“Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
How unlikely is it for a mother to forget the memory of her child? But it is more likely for that to happen than for God to forget about us….
This was written to the Jewish nation, but as the church is also God's people, we can understand that God will not forget us either as shown in the next verses:
Hebrews 6:10 (NASB)
For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.
2 Timothy 2:19A(NASB)
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,”
