"Of the sons of Issachar; men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do." 1 Chronicles 12:32
"Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians 5:15-17
Approximately 200 chiefs of the tribe of Issachar were characterized by their wisdom. They understood the times they lived in such that they also knew the necessary actions to take. They must have been extremely valuable advisors to king David.
We live in complex times today, and the need for "sons of Issachar" wisdom is great. Is there an evil agenda with prophetic significance behind current events? If so, what ought our response to be? These are challenging questions and issues. Thankfully, we are not left deficient as to the needed wisdom: "Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him." James 1:5
More than ever, "be careful how you walk." Modern technology is pervasive and its surveillance unblinking. The battle for the mind is more sophisticated than ever before. The days really are evil, so thus we should make the most of our time for the cause of Christ and the kingdom.
While we do face formidable obstacles and challenges in this modern age, we are not defenseless or defensive. As we are reminded in 1 John 4:4, "the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
Father, I ask for strength and wisdom for us today. We need to be wise sons of Issachar in a deceptive and dangerous world. We are thankful that we are not left deficient in that we have the very presence and wisdom of Jesus within through the medium of Holy Spirit. May we give due diligence to being instructed by devoting ourselves to a careful study of Your word. May we not coast on past study or knowledge, but rather live proactively from the wisdom gained today through study and prayer. Help us to live today, as Jesus taught us to be "wise as serpents and innocent as doves." Matthew 10:16. Thank you in advance for the victory that is ours today in Christ Jesus. In His name. Amen.
