"we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ ... I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some ... I do all things for the sake of the gospel ... I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved" 1 Corinthians 9:12,22,23;10:33.
When we look at these verses together, we learn much about the passion and purpose of the apostle Paul. It is obvious that he was gospel-driven and evangelism-driven. No hardship was to great to deter him from gospel work, and no obstacle was insurmountable in bringing that gospel to those who were without Christ.
Paul's example ought not to fill us with guilt, but rather be compellingly appealing. Why did the gospel mean so much to him? What drove his compassion for lost people? No doubt a personal and fulfilling relationship with the Christ of the gospel was this driving force.
Gospel priorities and work have their own rewards. The more we pursue a kingdom agenda the more fulfillment we find. Developing a hunger for God's word, intimacy with Him and Jesus through prayer, fellowship with His people, and outward-focused activities designed to build bridges to the lost, the more fulfillment we find. Belonging to something much greater than ourselves is incredibly enriching and fulfilling.
May we today discover with greater clarity the joy of a kingdom-driven life.
