The Precious & Priceless Blood of Jesus
The Price Jesus Paid for You & Me
Introduction:
Without the death of Jesus Christ on the cross where he shed His precious blood, you and I could not have a saving relationship with His and Our heavenly Father. Jesus’ sacrificial death made it possible for sinful man to approach the Holy Creator and Jehovah. Because of Christ’s precious blood, believers are if they accept him through the waters of baptism and live a separated life for him can be redeemed, forgiven, justified, and sanctified and they have access to His and Our Heavenly Father.
“26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” Galatians 3:26-29. – “I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world[a] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1 – “16 Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one as obedient slave, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” Romans 6:16-18. – “20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-23, [All Scriptures taken from the RSV].
I. The precious blood of Jesus is precious because Jesus is the Precious Son of God...
Jesus Christ was both ‘son of man’, a title which he often referred to himself, because
He was the son of Mary, and the ‘Son of God’ because of His virgin birth by the Holy Spirit of God. Because Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, the sin of Adam and Eve was not transferred to Him. In the Old Testament, any animal offered as a sacrifice had to be without spot or defect. Scripture tells us that the sacrifices described in the Old Testament were a foreshadowing of Christ’s death. In order for Jesus to take the punishment for the sins of all of humanity, He had to be morally without inherited the sin of Adam and Eve.
“18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake. 21 Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.[e]” 1 Peter 1:18-21. – “11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come,[f] then through the greater and more perfect tent[g] (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking[h] not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” Hebrews 9:11-14.
II. Because Jesus died and poured out His precious sinless blood we have the Hope of Salvation…
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has one main theme, the Father’s redeeming love for mankind. Christ was born as the sinless Son of God with the purpose of dying for the sins of all humanity. The priceless blood of Jesus Christ is absolutely essential for us to have a relationship with Our Creator, Jehovah. Without the selfless act of Jesus Christ giving his sinless live as a ransom for us we would have no hope of eternal life in the age to come.
“12 Now if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; 14 if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. 17 If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied.” 1 Corinthians 15:12-19.
III. The priceless blood of Jesus is precious because of what it provides us with…
A. Redemption and Forgiveness…
You and I can be forgiven because God is merciful and because Christ went to the cross and shed His priceless blood for us. “9 And so, from the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 to lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. 11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us[b] to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:9-14.
B. Justification…
God is holy and must punish sin. Because Christ shed His priceless blood in our place, the Father not only forgives our sin but also declares us righteous. We call this
process ‘justification.’ “15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one-man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16 And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. 17 If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one-man Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:16-18.
A. Reconciliation
When a married couple separates, they occasionally reunite. We call that process reconciliation. This human example provides a good picture of one part of salvation. Scripture says, “19 For in him all the fulness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” Colossians 1:19-20.
B. Sanctification
Sanctification, the process of being set apart for God’s purposes and being made holy, is possible only because of the precious blood of Christ, Hebrews 13:12. It is both a one-time event that happens at salvation and a life-long process. God continues to prune us so that we become more and more fruitful for His kingdom. You and I should never stop growing in holiness and purity.
C. He became our Mediator…
If we call on our Savior, Jesus Christ, he daily mediates our spiritual needs to the Father of Lights. “4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time.” 1 Timothy 2:5. – “6 But as it is, Christ[c] has obtained a ministry which is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second.” Hebrews 8:6, 7.
Conclusion:
Without the sacrifice of Jesus allowing himself to be crucified on the Cross of Calvary and allowing His precious & priceless blood to be spilled we today would have absolutely no hope. We would have to redemption from sin and no forgiveness of sins, we would not be reconciled or justified or sanctified before the Almighty God. So, without Christ’s sacrifice that provided us this these options, we would be without hope in this age.
