"those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary" Isaiah 40:31.
The word, "retire, is a strange-sounding word. On the surface it sounds like one who gets tired again. That's obviously not the meaning but, whether retired or not, we all get tired. In one of life's ironies, young children rarely seem to get tired all the while that their parents and grandparents are easily exhausted trying to keep up with them!
Limited energy is a fact of life, and diminished energy is a fact of aging. But, there is an answer to the dilemma, according to Isaiah 40:31. Waiting upon Yahweh results in new strength.
I'll be the first to admit that waiting isn't my strong suit. I somehow imagined that I would become more patient as I aged, but the opposite seems true. Isn't there some way to hurry up the process of waiting?
The word, "wait," as used in Isaiah 40:31, conveys the thought of eager waiting, or great anticipation. If we would find strength from our Father, we greatly anticipate unhurried time in His presence. Waiting takes time, and we gladly devote time to waiting.
The promises of Isaiah 40:31 are undoubtedly reserved for future fulfillment in the coming kingdom age on earth, but partial fulfillment can be realized in our lives today. Spiritual flight, running, and walking are within reach today.
May you, through God's strength and Spirit, take spiritual flight today as you are renewed in His rejuvenating presence.
