Jesus's Message

"When they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening ... And he stayed two full years in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered" Acts 28:23,30,31.

A contemporary writer asked, "What if Jesus had a message that truly could change the world, but we're prone to miss the point of it? ... What if the core message of Jesus has been unintentionally misunderstood or intentionally distorted?" The apostle Paul certainly did not miss Jesus' great message in that he was faithfully proclaiming and discussing it even from a prison cell.

It is abundantly clear in the book of Acts that the life-changing gospel being proclaimed was a two-part gospel. We see it in the final words about Paul: "preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered." We don't really know and understand Jesus if we don't know His main message, and His main message is incomplete and powerless without knowing that He is the king of that kingdom.

The first century church turned the world upside down with this full, two-part gospel. Throughout the ages since, more emphasis has been placed on Jesus, whereas His message has been much neglected. This undoubtedly has a detrimental effect on personal living and the impact of the church.

It seems reasonable to assume that the dynamic work of God's Holy Spirit is most closely associated with the full gospel of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus. I, for one, want the best possible Spirit connection available. For that reason, my goal is to best know Jesus' message, and Jesus, the king of the kingdom. I am confident that, if each of us makes this our goal, we will see an unleashing power to overcome addictions and unhealthy habits, enable healthy marriages, lifestyles, families, and churches, and ultimately show to the world the reality of the coming kingdom and King Jesus. This is  truth that will set us free in the truest sense.
