"And the word of the LORD came to me saying" Ezekiel 25:1.

Were Ezekiel alive and on the scene today, we might be skeptical of his claim. Many would-be prophets have stood up throughout the ages with "a word from the LORD," and proven to be anything but genuine. Far too many have financially and materially profited from "the word."

God's direct communication with the prophets is intriguing. How exactly did He speak? How did the prophets know it was Him? What were they doing at the time? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Many people yearn for a verbal word from the LORD, but it is possible to look and listen in the wrong way. Fact is, He HAS been speaking, and continues to speak today. According to Hebrews 1:1-2, "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world." What God has to say today, He is saying through His Son. As God emphatically declared on the Mount of Transfiguration, "This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!" (Mark 9:7) We do well to heed His directive.

The Christian faith degenerates into dead religion if there is not the slightest possibility of real, living communication between ourselves and our Creator. Through Jesus that communication link is established. Jesus has "uplinked" us to the Father through the dynamic Holy Spirit and His written word. In fact Jesus, the living word, is literally that link.

Communication only takes place when a message is heard. We're daily bombarded by a whole spectrum of electronic communications at various frequencies. However, we only hear and see through equipment attuned to proper frequencies.

Our Father is actively seeking to communicate with us through Jesus our Lord. The challenge is for us to listen. Are we hearing that voice through the gospels? Are we quieting ourselves enough to hear the still small voice? Be assured the voice is there. May we expectantly and attentively listen.
