And it will come about in the last days That the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, And the peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, ‘Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths.’ For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem” Micah 4:1-2.
A day is coming when there will be a nearly universal desire to intimately know the Creator of the universe; our Father. Such a desire and passion is generally rare in our times, but this is destined to change.
Micah describes for us the coming millennial government of God, headed by Jesus the Christ. Jerusalem will be the world capital of this coming government, and the perfect system of fairness and equality will be so appealing that the citizens of the nations will yearn to to know its “constitution” and Founder such that they will literally “stream to it.” Today, people largely stream to concerts, shopping malls, sporting events, and theme parks. We can scarcely imagine what it will be like for people to instead stream to Jerusalem to be taught by our heavenly Father.
The present Jerusalem is anything but raised up today as the mountain of the LORD such that the peoples of the nations stream to it. As I write these words, it is a time when holy days for Jews, Christians, and Muslims coincide, with the faithful from each of these religions streaming there, and many engaging in violence. The desire is to assert their beliefs, rather than to humbly learn the will and ways of their Creator. It will not always be so, as Micah reminds us.
We don’t have to wait for the coming kingdom age to passionately pursue a personal knowledge of our Father and His ways. We can experience something of the age to come in yearning to know Him and His truth today. His kingdom can in part come, and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, as we are passionate in our spiritual pursuit today. May this be our passionate pursuit today.
