Loveingkindness

This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. The LORD’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness Lamentations 3:21-23.

There is never a time so dark that our Father’s lovingkindness, compassion, and faithfulness does not prevail. This was the prophet Jeremiah’s confidence amidst a time of national crisis and defeat. The Babylonians had conquered them, destroyed their city and temple, and marched most of its inhabitants off into a seventy-year period of exile. Things could not have seemed worse; little wonder this book of called Lamentations.

The opening verses of Lamentations 3 are depressing and negative, as are most of its five chapters. As the prophet surveyed the scene, there was little to be optimistic about. But, as he remembered, hope stirred within him. The current calamity was not destined to be the ultimate reality; the hope of restoration was real because of the lovingkindness, compassion, and faithfulness of the God of gods.

The world of today is in crisis, and perhaps your personal world as well. We do not have to look far to see concerning events, trends, and circumstances. Amidst it all, we do well to learn a lesson from the prophet Jeremiah: recall to mind what God has done to refocus your hope. Surely the God who has been faithful in the past will not forsake His plans to restore and prosper us. As the hymn based on these verses so confidently declares, Great is Your faithfulness! He will return us from exile in this present world system to the  kingdom of God on earth at the soon of His Son. “Therefore i have hope.”
