Urgency of the Gospel

“And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; and he said with a loud voice, ‘Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters’” Revelation 14:6-7

Even in the eleventh hour of human history, as God’s great wrath is poured out prior to the return of Jesus, there is hope for deliverance. Whereas humans have been tasked with sharing this “eternal gospel” (Matthew 28:18-20), an angel is assigned to do so at this age’s end. This eternal gospel remains universal in scope - “to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.” It is for all people, in every nation, in every age.

As the final cataclysm is about to unfold, the appeal is to “Fear God, and give Him glory … worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.” If only the unrepentant would see the hand of God in His handiwork (Romans 1:20), they might turn to Him and live.

If there is urgency with the gospel in the final chapter of this age, there definitely is urgency now. As Jesus said, “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come” Matthew 24:14. Understanding that the eternal gospel is summed up in Acts 8:12, we who have been enlightened to this full gospel have a great privilege and responsibility to share it.

The end of the age is as near as the end of life. Those whose mortal life’s end is near are especially burdensome to us. It cannot be assumed that they will somehow have another chance to respond to the gospel; this life is the only true opportunity we have. We must not be blinded as to the true fate of every individual: we are either saved for the kingdom, or doomed for destruction in the lake of fire; there is no third alternative.

If God is so concerned for the salvation of people that He entrusts an angel with declaring it at the time of the end, ought we not be deeply concerned now?

The world is changing rapidly geopolitically as well as environmentally. Times of change have the potential to cause people to look beyond the superficial to that which is lasting and spiritual. There is evidence that the post-teen, young adult generation is especially looking for spiritual answers, which are found in the eternal gospel. The greatest opportunity for the gospel may be approaching. It behooves us to especially pray for wisdom and opportunities to advance the Acts 8:12 gospel - before the final hour.
