Morning is Coming

“Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the tday is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” Romans 13:11-14

It is tempting to drift into a type of spiritual autopilot. Routines, while serving as good disciplines, can become devoid of purpose and meaning. Sameness can become lethargy.

We are called to spiritual awareness. We must awaken from sleep, which is descriptive of spiritual dullness, complacency, and distraction. We are urged to do so because our final redemption is drawing near. Christ is coming, and eternity is approaching.

We live in the night of this present evil age, but a new day is dawning; the kingdom in fullness. This is powerful motivation to cast off works of darkness, and put on spiritual armor. Preparation and vigilance are of utmost importance. Thus, we must cast off secret habits, bitterness, pride, lust, entertainment that dulls holiness, and hidden unbelief.

We have persevered and endured thus far. Now is not the time to drift and compromise. We must ask, “what sins must I avoid?” But more than that, we must ask, “Am I clothed in Christ today?”

Morning is coming. Let us live as those who fully expect the sunrise.
