Ice is interesting that if you freeze it, it actually gets heavier.  This is because it pulls in more mass from the air.

So why would ice float?  

Johannes Vermeer lived 1632 - 1675 and was a Dutch painter who liked to paint domestic interior scenes of the middle class.

He had some success as a painter and had paintings displayed in the Delft and Hague.

But was forgotten soon after his death.

They are formed when thin layers of ice are are extruded from long-stemmed plants in autum or early winter in the right conditions.

The thin layers of ice often form into exquisite patters that curl into petals that can resemble flowers.
