God is in Control…But is He Pleased With the Election Results?

a.jpg

I’m writing this before the election has taken place, so don’t read too much in to this applying to any particular candidate/President elect.

Throughout every election season, we hear a lot of Christians saying, “God is in control”.  It’s true.  Absolutely.  He is in control.

But I think that this phrase gets mis-used (or mis-interpreted) to mean that whoever wins the election has God’s favor somehow…that they are a godly person… God is on their side.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

We’re told in Scripture that God “removes kings and establishes kings.” (Daniel 2:21)  That doesn’t mean that he likes them,  It doesn’t mean that whoever God places in power is a person who honors Him.  All it means is that this person, at this time, will best further God’s cause of bringing about His eternal Kindgom.

Think Pharaoh, Ahab, Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus, and Herod…to name a few.

I was looking for verses to pray for our nation, for our world.  I came across a verse in the Psalms that says that, “dominion belongs to the LORD; He rules over the nations.” (Ps. 22:28).  When I examined the context of this verse, I was interested to find that it is in the Psalm that begins, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Sound familiar?

This is the Psalm that Jesus quoted…cried out…just moments before he died on the cross.

Many were mistaken then, believing that God’s plan had been thwarted somehow.  Many are mistaken now, believing that God’s plan is off track.

Friends, take peace in knowing that He knows what He’s doing!

God is in control

He is not asleep at the wheel.  He has not made a mistake.  He is not wrong, mis-informed, or slow.  He does, however, know infinitely more than us and have a plan that is in progress.

As a believer, I am content to trust Him.  I’ll press on and try to be a person that He does like…that honors him.  And I’ll wait.  Jesus is coming.  “Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.”  (1 Corinthians 15:24) …(I’ve got to add a little, “yay” after that!)

I found a number of verses that I will be praying for believers, for our nation, and for the world.  I created a printable, if you’re interested.  You can get it if you subscribe to my email list.  (If you’re already a subscriber, look for it in your email box tomorrow, I’ll be sending it directly to you!)

I also wrote recently on our society’s increasing disability to disagree civilly, which is certainly showing itself these days.  Check it out.

Be blessed.  Be bold in living His word.  Be at peace.
