Coming Again

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS" Revelation 19:11-16.

It is the most detailed description of the most important event to come. With a great trumpet blast and an angelic shout, the hope of the ages will be realized. While there are those who mock and scoff at the notion of the literal return of Christ, it is an event as real as tomorrow's headlines.

His name, we read, is The Word of God. In the past, God has verbally spoken, and He has provided us with the written word, but in His Son we have the Word made flesh. As we read in Hebrews 1:1-2, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son.” Whatever our Father has to say, He is saying it through His Son.

The Living Word of God comes to us today to bring full life and meaning to God's written word. The risen Christ is the indwelling, teaching Christ in every believer today. As we devote ourselves to reading and studying the written word, the living Word breathes life and understanding into that which we read.

Christ, the Word of God, is coming again. We literally have God’s word on it. While the date has long been selected by our Father, it has not been revealed to anyone, included Jesus (Matthew 24:36). But, just because it is not known does not mean that it will not happen. “This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). This is our sure and certain hope.

The Second Coming of Jesus is powerful incentive to live our lives in readiness for His appearing. As is so well stated in 1 John 3:3,"everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself."

May the reality of our hope be the powerful motivation for living today - and every day.
