When I got my first house, My late-wife Gaylene did research on hard-wired internet options, instead of still having to use a modem for access, and found access via the cable company could be a bit higher, but it was shared with the whole neighborhood, where if you went with the phone company, you got a dedicated line. While we thought about our options we then found out that specific neighborhood only had one option, so our choice was made for us.
Since I moved into my house in Hutchinson I have used a Cable modem for Internet. As time goes by, the prices go up, and the data caps get smaller. With internet provided over Cable everyone in a network shares the speed. So if your neighbor is a gamer using a lot of internet, your speed is slower.
Since I do weekly video editing for the church, and for Fall and Spring conference each year, there are times I have ran up against our data cap.
So when our phone company started putting in Optical Fibre and offered us free install, less monthly cost, higher upload speeds, and no data caps, we jumped at it. Note this is all a dedicated connection too, we don’t have to share with the whole neighborhood.
So they come, do the install, we switch over, and we have over the download speed they advertised, but around only 8% of our upload speed, we had an issue. I figured that wasn’t even enough for me to do my job during the day. (I work from home.)
One tech even told us, well the upload speed you quoted is only the ADVERTISED speed, that is not what you get.
A number of years ago, we took my now-wife Denise’s wedding ring in to be checked. They said, oh there is an issue, we should send it in to get fixed, I said, sounds good, do you need me to sign paper, when will it be done?
They said, you also have to pay. I responded, when we bout it, it said a lifetime warranty on any issues. The store said, oh, that is only what we ADVERTISE, that isn’t what you get.
In this world of false advertising, I decided to turn to where there is truth.
Titus 1:1-2
Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago,
God can’t lie, so he is truth. He has promised us eternal life if we follow his son.
John 14:6 NASB
Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life…
God’s son Jesus is Truth
The last part of John 17:17 NASB, Jesus says:
Your word is truth
So God’s word, including the Bible is truth
and then in 2 Timothy 2:15 NASB it says:
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
We are instructed to correctly handle the word of truth as well
He goes on to say not to lie about out hope in the future, as others that have gone astray, instead, starting v 19
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,”
Unlike the false advertising, bait and switch, and other tactics we run into in the world so often, we know that God, his son, and his word are truth. So the promise that God knows those who are his, and we have hope in the future both for us, and those we have list, is something we can trust.
