Sint Maarteen is located in the Caribbean, houses are numbered in the order built, not based on their position on a street, like in many other countries. Buildings are divided into multiple homes, without individual addresses posted to point to the correct front door.
After Hurricane Louise in 1995 the local government chose, quite logically, to fix the problem by renumbering the houses. But some residents refuse to accept their new number and continue to use the old one, with many houses still displaying both.
Many residents take down new street signs, and put up the previous one that they preferred.
To make it more complicated, there is no official maps of the island at the street level.
In this situation, you call for an ambulance in a medical emergency, the ambulance drivers often couldn’t arrive in time, since they could not find where they were supposed to go.
In jumps the local hero, Domino’s Pizza. Hungry customers are Hangry customers. To combat this issue, the owner of the local Dominos’s Pizza and drivers, collaborate on the only real map of the city. They have notes about what road signs are up for each street and intersection, which entrance to each house has which family, and they keep it updated.
Now when ambulance drivers are called to a location they have not been before, they stop at Domino first, to get a good idea of where they need to go. Domino’s may have created the map, but they share to direct the steps of emergency workers.
Good for Domino’s, but we have a much more accurate path to follow:
Proverbs 16:9 NASB
The mind of a person plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
