A recent court case in Italy is interesting.

Italy's top appeals court overturned a conviction against a homeless man from the Ukrane, who stole cheese and hot dogs worth $4.50, becuase he was starving.

Their judgement is that if you are starving, theft of a small amount of food is not a crime.
